From Naples city, the simplest way to Sorrento is the Circumvesuviana train: from Napoli Porta Nolana or Napoli P. Garibaldi, one train every 30 minutes from 05:30 to 22:00, about 75 minutes, €4.60 with an EAV ticket. The hydrofoil from Molo Beverello takes you by sea for €18.50 (NLG) or €19 (Alilauro), but from 4 November Alilauro sails only Monday to Friday and NLG keeps one or two runs a day. A city taxi costs a fixed €125 per car plus tolls, if you ask for the fixed fare before you leave. Checked on EAV, Unico Campania, Alilauro, NLG and Comune di Napoli pages on 2 November 2026.
Train times: EAV timetable 'L1 Napoli–Sorrento' in force from 17 October 2026. Train fare: Unico Campania fare search, Napoli → Sorrento (band NA5), which shows €4.90 for the single ticket and €4.60 on EAV services. Hydrofoils: Alilauro and NLG route pages. Taxi: Comune di Napoli fixed-fare list (in force since 1 September 2024). All read on 2 November 2026.
The Circumvesuviana is the local EAV line around Vesuvius, and Sorrento is its last stop. Since 17 October 2026 the Napoli–Sorrento timetable is simple: one train every 30 minutes, leaving Napoli Porta Nolana at :00 and :30 from 05:30 to 22:00, and stopping at Napoli P. Garibaldi (the stop at Napoli Centrale) three minutes later. Every train reaches Sorrento 1 hour 15 minutes after Porta Nolana; the last one gets in at 23:15.
The way back is the mirror image: from Sorrento at :00 and :30, 05:30 to 22:00, arriving at Garibaldi 73 minutes later. The same trains stop at Pompei Scavi – Villa dei Misteri, 39 minutes out of Porta Nolana, which is why so many people do Pompeii on the way.
The fare on the Unico Campania search is €4.60 for an EAV single ticket (€4.90 for the general single in the same band). The 180-minute integrated ticket is €6.10 and only makes sense if you also ride a Naples bus or metro to reach the station.
Both operators that sail to Sorrento leave from Molo Beverello, the port in front of Piazza Municipio, and land at Sorrento's Marina Piccola. It is the nicer arrival, but in winter it runs on a short schedule.
Alilauro lists five departures from Naples (09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:05, 17:15) and five back from Sorrento (08:15, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:25). From 4 November to 31 March they run only Monday to Friday, not on public holidays. Adult fare €19; children 2–12 €14.80; bags over 50×35×20 cm or 9 kg pay €3.50.
NLG sails from Naples at 10:00 every day until 15 November, and at 18:25 every day through 31 December; from Sorrento at 07:20 daily and 17:00 until 15 November. Adult one way €18.50, children 2–12 €12, €5 per piece of luggage.
So on a winter weekend after mid-November, NLG's 18:25 is the only boat from Naples on the operators' pages. Hydrofoils can be cancelled in rough sea; the train is the fallback. For boats once you are here, see getting around by boat.
Naples has fixed taxi fares set by the city. To Sorrento it is €125 per car, one way. The fixed price already includes luggage, night and holiday supplements; motorway tolls are extra, and a minivan (more than four passengers) adds €5.
The rule that matters: you must ask for the fixed fare at the start. The driver cannot refuse, must give you a filled-in receipt with route and price before leaving, and the meter shows “F0.00”. If you do not ask, you are on the meter.
Between the train station and the port, the fixed fare from Napoli Centrale/Piazza Garibaldi to Molo Beverello is €15.50.
Light bag, any day, any hour until 22:00: the train. Cheapest by far, and in November the only option with a departure every half hour.
Weekday, daylight, staying near the port in Naples: the hydrofoil from Beverello. About €19, a view of the bay, and no transfer to the train station.
Three or four people with suitcases, or arriving late: the fixed-fare taxi. Split four ways, €125 is about €31 each, plus tolls.

The Campania Express was EAV's tourist train between Naples and Sorrento, with fewer stops and reserved seats. It does not appear in EAV's current Napoli–Sorrento timetable (from 17 October 2026), which lists only regular trains. Local press reported it suspended from 1 October 2026, with no restart date announced. Some third-party sites still show old Campania Express times: ignore them and plan on the regular train.
