For most people the direct Curreri bus (~€13, one ride to Sorrento station) is the answer. For a late flight or a lot of luggage, book a private transfer. On the tightest budget, Alibus plus the Circumvesuviana train.
It is about 50 km. A taxi or transfer does it in roughly an hour; the direct bus in 75–90 minutes; the bus-and-train in 90+. The thing that decides it is your flight time and your luggage — not the price.
Both are obvious once you know them, and nowhere on the booking sites that sell you the ticket.
You cannot board the Circumvesuviana at the airport. You first take the Alibus to Napoli Garibaldi / Centrale, then the train to Sorrento. “Take the train” always means two steps.
The Curreri direct bus runs only a handful of times a day, roughly 9:00 to 19:30. A flight landing late means a taxi or a pre-booked transfer — plan for it before you fly.
| Option | Price | Time | Runs | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Curreri direct bus | ~€13 | 75–90 min | ~6–8/day, daytime | Simple, one ride, luggage hold |
| Alibus + Circumvesuviana | ~€10 total | 90 min + | Frequent | Smallest budget, light bags |
| Private transfer | ~€90–130 | ~60 min | On booking | Late flights, groups, door-to-door |
| Taxi (fixed fare) | ~€100–125 +tolls | ~60 min | On demand | Immediate, no booking |
| Ferry (Alibus + boat) | Varies | Seasonal | Apr–Oct | A scenic arrival |
The one direct, no-change option, and the one most people want. Curreri Viaggi runs roughly six to eight buses a day between the airport and Sorrento train station, stopping in the peninsula towns (Vico Equense, Sant’Agnello). Buy online in advance or on board; there is a luggage hold.
At the airport it leaves from the tourist-bus parking (“bus turistici”): exit the terminal, pass the Alibus stop and taxi rank, and follow the signs right.
The cheapest route, in two steps: the Alibus airport shuttle to Napoli Garibaldi (~€5), then the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (~€5), which runs every half hour and ends at Sorrento.
Pre-booked, a driver meets you in arrivals and takes you to your door in about an hour. The sane choice for a late or early flight, a family, or a lot of luggage — and often the same price as, or cheaper than, a taxi.
Naples airport to Sorrento is a fixed-fare (tariffa predeterminata) run — a set price posted at the rank, not the meter. Roughly €100–125.
Not the obvious route, but a beautiful one: Alibus to the port at Molo Beverello, then a seasonal ferry across the bay to Sorrento. Weather-dependent, and gone in winter — but the arrival by sea is the best there is.
The Alibus shuttle to Napoli Garibaldi (about €5) and then the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (about €5) — roughly €10 in total. It is cheap but crowded, with little room for big luggage.
Yes. Curreri Viaggi runs a direct bus to Sorrento train station, around €13, in about 75–90 minutes, roughly six to eight times a day. It leaves from the tourist-bus parking at the airport and you can buy on board.
Not directly. No train leaves the airport itself — you take the Alibus to Napoli Garibaldi / Centrale and change to the Circumvesuviana line, which ends at Sorrento.
About an hour by taxi or private transfer, 75–90 minutes by the direct Curreri bus, and 90 minutes or more by Alibus plus the Circumvesuviana train.
It is a fixed fare — roughly €100–125 — posted at the rank, not the meter. Agree the all-in price first and confirm it includes the airport supplement, tolls and luggage.
The direct bus and the trains stop in the evening, so a late arrival means a pre-booked private transfer or a taxi. Arrange the transfer before you travel.
Curreri runs some direct services toward Positano, but the usual route is to Sorrento first, then the SITA Sud bus along the Amalfi Coast. See our getting-around guide.
